Health Studies Scientist

Location: San Diego, CA
Schedule: Full-Time | Onsite
Pay: $83.18 per hour
Travel: Occasional travel to San Jose may be required

Position Overview

We are seeking a Health Studies Scientist to partner with engineering and product teams to design, pilot, and execute health studies evaluating sensor and algorithm performance. This role combines scientific study design with hands-on research involving human participants, wearable sensors, clinical reference devices, and data-collection systems.

The ideal candidate will have strong research and protocol-development experience, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively across scientific, engineering, legal, privacy, and operations teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with engineers to define study hypotheses, endpoints, methodologies, and research protocols.

• Develop protocols, Informed Consent Forms (ICFs), SOPs, and other study documentation consistent with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and human-subject protections.

• Lead hands-on study sessions involving human participants, wearable sensors, internal data-logging tools, and third-party clinical reference devices.

• Conduct pilot and feasibility studies to validate protocols, identify operational challenges, and troubleshoot sensor performance.

• Coordinate study launches, data collection, monitoring, and closeout activities.

• Train study personnel on data-collection procedures and data-quality standards.

• Ensure scientific rigor, data integrity, and accurate documentation throughout study execution.

• Partner with cross-functional engineering, research, product, legal, privacy, and operations teams to align priorities and deliver study objectives.

• Analyze and verify collected data and support development of tools and workflows that improve research operations.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Bioengineering, Health Sciences, or a related field.

• 3+ years of experience in health or clinical research, sensor validation, or human data collection.

• Demonstrated experience developing research protocols, consent documents, SOPs, and study documentation.

• Direct experience working with human participants in research or health studies.

• Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.

• Ability to maintain high standards of scientific validity, participant safety, and data integrity.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with FDA regulatory standards, GCP, human factors principles, and project management.

• Experience operating physiological sensors, wearable devices, and clinical reference equipment.

• Experience managing human-participant data collection workflows.

• Experience using Python or shell scripting to verify, validate, or process collected data.

• Experience with Generative AI tools, including LLM-assisted coding, prompt engineering, or AI-enabled productivity and scientific documentation workflows.

• Experience working with engineering teams on sensor or algorithm validation.

Work Environment

• Onsite position in San Diego, CA

• Occasional travel to San Jose, CA may be required.

• Business casual dress.

• Work involves direct interaction with human study participants, research equipment, and data-collection systems.
