Tooling Design Engineer (Metal Stamping)

Role: Tooling Design Engineer

Industry: Precision Metal.

Working Duration: 6 months contract - can be converted to permanent.

Working Location: Puncak Alam (On Site)

Working Day/Hours: Mon-Fri (8.30am to 5.30pm) -

Salary: Basic up to RM RM3,500 – RM5,000 (Based on experience + skills) + statutory contribution + leave entitlement + medical insurance

Key Responsibilities

• Design and release stamping tools/dies (progressive, compound, transfer) to meet customer and internal specifications.
• Use 2D/3D CAD (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo) to develop tooling layouts, strip-layouts, die sets and tooling components (punches, die plates, strippers, guides).
• Conduct feasibility and stamping process reviews: blank development, forming, trimming, spring back, die flow and material take-off.
• Collaborate with Production, Toolroom and Engineering on try-out, tool trials, fitting, alignment and modifications.
• Review customer drawings and revise tooling designs based on feedback and change requests.
• Apply GD&T, design standards and manufacturing knowledge to minimise defects and drive tooling robustness.
• Maintain tooling database, updates, change history and ensure documentation (drawings, BOMs, tooling standards) are controlled.
• Support root-cause investigations of tooling/die failures, propose design improvements and preventive actions.
• Liaise with vendors/suppliers of tooling components (where applicable) to ensure correct specification and quality.

Requirements

Essential:

• Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical qualification.
• Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD or similar) with hands-on tooling/die design experience.
• Good understanding of metal stamping processes, sheet metal material behaviour, die construction and press operation.
• Working knowledge of GD&T, tooling standards, die set elements and manufacturing tolerances.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to collaborate across Production, QA and Maintenance functions.
• Good communication skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia.

Preferred (Advantage):

• 1–3 years of hands-on experience in tooling design within a metal stamping environment.
• Fresh graduates with strong internship or final-year project experience in stamping/die design are encouraged to apply. - Not preferred.
• Experience with progressive or compound dies, tool try-out and troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality management systems.
